Nic joined the LSE in 2012 and has research interests in unpaid care, youth mental health, health inequalities, and children’s and young people’s services. She has worked on unpaid care and employment, an economic evaluation of youth mental health services, a study of the benefits and potential cost savings of early years’ prevention services and support, and a study on the long-term economic impacts of bullying in childhood.

Derek’s areas of expertise are mental health policy and economics, the demand and financing of long term care and cost-effectiveness analysis. He has previously worked in the areas of private medical insurance, priority setting in health care, pharmaceutical policy and development of quality of life instruments. Derek has recently completed work looking at the intensity of unpaid care provision and its impact on employment. He is currently involved in a number of cost and cost-effectiveness studies of health and social care interventions.

Martin’s current research emphases are primarily dementia, child and adult mental health, autism and long-term social care; much of his work has an economic focus, and in all of it he seeks to tease out the policy implications. He has published almost 500 peer-review journal papers and 15 books. His work has had numerous impacts on policy and practice in these areas.

Madeleine’s current research is about children at high risk of later antisocial and criminal behaviour. The study combines an in-depth qualitative study of a small group of families over five years with analysis of larger longitudinal data sets, investigating why and how families benefit, or fail to benefit, from support and intervention from services and other sources. She is also working on a study to develop an app to provide access to support for young people with mental health needs.
